I was a New Yorker for decades. Never would have been in Trump's social circles but read about him -- on morning subway commutes -- usually NY Post page 6 antics.

I found him vulgar and repulsive. A rich brat who never had to make rent with a loud mouth and gaudy ostentatious buildings. It's easy to be a winner if your daddy's rich. Go out and make rent from $0, then tell me what a winner is. And if you lose, learn something about life.

My perspective has evolved.

I missed then the performance artist quality he possesses. The character and the person are mixed in strange ways, like two clouds of fog that blow together. I missed that he doesn't lose himself completely in his character, there's a toe-hold he has that brings him back to sanity and life.

Like it's all a big joke and he's just a comedian performing.

Most of his critics don't have that toe hold. They lose themselves in the blindness of their own minds and become the very thing they say they hate. As people will.

Whatever he is, he's better than his critics. I'm glad I'm not one anymore.

Really well said. Thanks for taking the time to write this. You said things I was trying to get at but couldn’t put into words. Comped your subscription an extra 3 months.

Chris, you are so very kind. And 'wicked' (biggest compliment) smart.

Thanks for your perspective.

I can't personally stand Trump, but his enemies are far more dangerous. They use the threat of Trump to allow themselves to justify their wildest power fantasies, from censorship to lawfare. And the corporate media have revealed themselves to be utterly politicized and unable to hold them to account. I know who the "threat to democracy" is, and it isn't Trump.

I beg you to reconsider as I have. I think he has more than made up for his faults.

You may want to re-read my comment. I think you may have misunderstood what I wrote.

I just beg you to reconsider that you cant personally stand him. I am 55 and couldn't either because I have grown up with him in public life. Based on what the government has put him and his family through I consider him a Medal of Freedom recipient. Pretty much, I love what he is doing defying our rabid 'leaders'.

I agree that trump has managed to retain some portion of his genuine humanity and that is by far his most attractive quality. Sad to think that is likely why he is being attacked so viciously. If he were a hollow shell like joe Biden or keir starmer he wouldn’t have the same problems.

Well said. And if you don't want a fighter on your side fighting for YOU then you will get

more to the decay and destruction of not only the USA but the world. People respect a leader,

may not like him but sure as hell respect him & USA.

Huge fail from the Secret Service. Any decent Deer Hunter can hit a target from 130 yards. How was the shooter’s position not identified and secured long before the start of the event ?? Whoever is running the Country and Secret Service is truly desperate.

Expand full comment

No excuse for not having the shooter's vantage point covered. Witnesses had shouted for several minutes at cops that they saw the man climbing up the side of the building with a rifle. NO action whatsoever.

These days, I have to work at not being a tin-foil hat wearing conspiracy theorist. Too many things are clearly not as they tell us. Imagine; what IF there were people in government who were not above assassinating a presidential candidate. Lord knows, they've done everything ELSE to him.

Expand full comment

The US has been assassinating leaders around the world for many decades. Why not inside the US? Predict there will be another Warren Commission “investigation” of the Trump shooting similar to 1963. Expect a loser “lone gunman” finding once again. All records from this new investigation will also be locked up for at least 60+ years.

He's been mocked, impeached, indicted, tried, convicted, and shot--all of this in his 70s. Yet, he rises to keep fighting.

Maybe he does belong on Mt. Rushmore.

I respectfully disagree. This idolatry of of a mere human being, an ‘administrator’ of a government, is our national problem.

No man’s face should be carved into a mountain.

This is why we are no longer a Constitutional Republic. We consent to a human ‘savior’.

Expand full comment

Who idolizes him? I’ve supported Trump from the beginning, but never idolized him. I just happen to support a man who truly loves our country & has the balls to fight for it.

Expand full comment

I agree with your statement about how he is a fighter I certainly am in no position to judge any human.

I was merely pointing out that a man's image on the side of a beautiful mountain is like a stamp of victory of ownership. In my view of Creation, it is a desecration. That is my opinion. And, as you correctly point out, we American citizens have been gifted that in our 1st Amendment which they have seized, but not yet stolen.

We lost many of our constitutional rights during 2020 and Trump was a party to that. He knew the truth of the lab, knew the severe impact of the shutdowns, and experienced the Presidential Cocktail himself leaving all of us behind (except for the rich, of course). We citizens that love our country, suffered as a consequence of his silence. And many will suffer even more. Not just from the illness and the 'safe and effective' countermeasure, the inflation is currently destroying our working class (I know this from personal experience, the need in my community is high and do my personal best to remedy it for the few individuals I can help).

The evidence suggests, based on my non-expert assessment, a man who did not fight for the citizens. That is my position, as clearly stated as I can. I dare say, many voters will accept any concession from him on this point and vote for him. (We literally have no choice). Yet, he remains proud of WarpSpeed. And this is only collateral damage, it is really about the Constitution for which I grieve and it's been a privilege to be a part of history like this.

PS I'm bias. I am a former NYer. I was raised around this type of grandiose human behavior (commonly known as 'bullshitting) and wouldn't be surprised if it was all one big act. Substance over form.

Marilyn, I'm delighted that you love our country as much as I. Everything is going to be alright because Life always, always wins!

Here’s an anecdote I heard years ago, long before he ran, about Trump:

His limo got a flat tire while on the highway. While waiting for assistance, a middle aged couple stopped and asked if he needed help. The guy said he’d change the tire for Trump, and did. Trump thanked them and took their name and number. When he got home, he found out their home mortgage holder and paid off their rather considerable mortgage as thanks.

This is only one of the random acts of kindness I’ve heard about Trump over the years.

Every time I hear a DEMOCRAT mean-mouth Trump, I think of this story. It was one of the reasons I voted for him the first time, and why I’m crawling over glass this time.

Expand full comment

I've also heard about random acts, especially to service people who work at his establishments. Sure doesn't gel with the fact that he's supposedly a 'racist', which is why you don't ever hear about it. Dude's getting the short end of the stick, even for a narcissistic billionaire -- think of how hard that is to do...

Great commentary, as usual. I lived in NYC for over 20 years, from the late 80's till 2006. This Man was loved! He had cameos in movies, music videos, he was on Oprah, Barbra Walters & every other talk show. I used to see him on the sidewalk in midtown, near his office. The hatred towards him was completely manufactured by OUR government through the mainstream media. NO one in power wants a non-politician coming in and attempting to disrupt their constant grift, that's Democrats AND Republicans. Trump is not a Republican (they don't have those in Queens!) but our system is SUCH a disaster that you cannot win outside of the party system, see Ross Perot, who I voted for 34 years ago. When Pres Regan was shot in 1981, it was awful but our country was strong. When Pres Trump was shot last night I wanted to cry. Can he save our country? Sadly we may be too far gone to save, no empire lasts forever, history has shown us this repeatedly. One things for sure in my opinion, he's our last chance.

He's like the Taz from Bugs Bunny. A powerhouse, never stopping. It was a tiring four years, every day Festivus, airing of grievances. I've always thought that the desire to be President should immediately disqualify you. For his sake and the sake of the country I wish him a full and complete recovery.

You're exactly right. It's the same with people asking me how I can support Trump as a Christian.

1. I'm agnostic and I don't understand why they think everyone voting for Trump is Christian.

2. Even if I were, I'm not looking at a Presidential candidate to be my spiritual guide. I'm looking for someone who will reinforce the Western ideas and values my ancestors built. Someone who has a spirit of freedom and strength, bravery, courage, and yes, chutzpah.

And, he's got those in spades. As a matter of fact, if the media and the Intelligence Agencies, and the EU liked him too much, I'd probably hate him.

same here, I had a Christian fundamentalist upbringing and bridled at it as soon as I was old enough to speak. I don't support Trump for anything remotely religious. The US needs a President with drive, perseverance, and who acknowledges human nature for what it is. The Left utterly lacks that ability, and is the main reason Trump is viewed as a viable President by half the country. The country's other half is composed of those who view human nature as plastic and moldable; it is NOT. It was outrageous that a bystander was killed by the unhinged shooter, but I believe it's good that Trump is still here, ready to brawl.

Ya, he's a narcissist. Can you name any highly successful businessman (woman) who isn't? Can you name pretty much any politician who isn't a pathological narcissist? I think it's a prerequisite for employment. But I also think the difference between Trump and the rest of them is that Trump will be the first to agree with you, buy you a beer, and laugh about it, while all the others, especially the politicians, will lie to your face and tell you how altruistic they are while out in the parking lot their henchmen are stealing your car.

"People first joked that Trump was running in 2016 as a PR stunt. Maybe he was." I remember in 2015, when the Dems, and their corporate media shills, saw him as a combination stalking horse and cash cow. While he went around kneecapping contenders like Cruz, Rubio and JEB!, he was barnstorming Kimmel and Colbert, whose ratings soared. (Good times.) During one appearance with Colbert, still etched in my memory, the host rose ecstatically from his seat, walked toward the audience and enthused, "I LOVE THIS GUY!" Good luck finding that clip on YouTube.

As I recall it was reported that Melania asked him if he was serious about seeing it all the way through because she told him he’d win if he did - ie., the dog catching the car. Saw a pic from the shooting that the author noting it said will be a picture for the history books showing a bloodied defiant Trump. You couldn’t get a more stark contrast then seeing the video of Biden departing Dover to return to the White House, granted it was passed his bedtime, but I was just in awe of the contrast of two candidates roughly the same age and one just keeps getting up and kicking ass and taking names, the others, falls on his ass and can’t remember names…

We were all writing about him a couple hours ago and... tada!

I would fire all the USSS security detail asap and hire some really personal guards/pretorians.

Conspiracy I smell... what about the guy/guys trying to warn police and usss about the shooter and being hushed???

Trying to connect dots: leftist Netflix doing an indeed quite good series (the one I mentioned yesterday) on USSS: PR image constructing just in advance?

We are the best in the world... maybe not.

The damn hollywood is just so predictable...

And, more fatalistically... it's only me thinking he's driven/protected from "Some" real above?

Two occasions: the fly on HRC nose...we all remember that (this could have been a Darpa-25-years-in-the-future super miniature drone, ok...) and now the bullet grazing his earlobe???

Hand-Of-God at work... ruining the leftist globalist attempts.

God bless Him!!!
