I would disagree that leftists hate billionaires like Bill Gates and Elon Musk. They love Gates and his phony meat and vaccines that harm the masses, they hate Musk and his free speech on X. It depends on what the billionaire believes on a social level whether they hate them or not, it’s not just the money.

"Let’s do everything we can to counter the woke plot to destroy our economy and to encourage the free market economic policies of Ludwig von Mises and Murray Rothbard. That is the way to a prosperous economy in which all groups can live in harmony."

This is the problem. Lots of folks can identify the problem but the solutions are vague. What is "everything we can?" Lately folks think that voting harder will fix things but it never does. Who is driving the woke plot? Who is keeping the borders open to destroy the American culture? Who is pushing white discrimination? Who is fostering hate between blacks and whites? Who controls the Federal Reserve Bank? Who decides who gets bailouts and who does not? Finally, who benefits from all of this chaos? People say "the elites" or the "deep state" which is vague. Is there a name? Who is the enemy here?

Most woke idiots are white and their wrath is directed against other whites. At home in private, I bet most folks of African ancestry are wondering what latest insanity the crazy cracker-folks are channeling. I suspect the "black vote" in November will turn out to a surprising degree (for some people) for Mr. Trump.

True libertarians would have denounced the union movement and the New Deal. Both forces probably laid the groundwork for broad middle class prosperity and a booming economy. Capital formation and economic prosperity get complicated, but ideologues of all varieties don't do nuance. So they reduce everything to what their filters let through. Reading this stuff is tedious and almost not worth the time, but it gives me an excuse to rant.

I actually don’t find that people you are calling “woke” are calling to tear it all down. They are struggling for fundamental fairness, an equal shot at success for everyone. As a woman, I’ve benefited from what you are calling “wokeness”, one which you would seem to have a problem with. Ten years before I went to business school, there were no women admitted. The job I’ve had in finance would have been closed to women. You’re illustrating the same behavior you are calling out in the “woke”—slamming people who have a different point of view with gross characterizations of how they feel about others. This lack of critical thinking and nuance is why I cancelled my subscription.

If every post called forth an agreement echo chamber there’d be no discussion/debate.

It’s good to read things you disagree with. The process helps shape one’s own thinking about reality.

@Constance Miner - You went to school and still think there is such a thing as fundamental fairness? Life is NOT fair and never will be. Your quest for fairness is woke in itself. Look at the inner cities of the US and tell me how this quest for fundamental fairness is working...

Can you please tell me who doesn't have access to opportunity the day they are born here in the United States right now?

My dog is not allowed a driver license, let alone access to the library!!! But, at least she gets to vote.

Before you cancel you might want to look up the meanings of “equal outcome” and “equal opportunity”.

The left never differentiates between the rich who make their money and the rich who make their money by grift. Somehow the entrepreneur is evil and selfish but the congressman (or woman) that makes millions via insider trading is a “public servant”

Best way to see how sincere these woke white folk are about reparations would be to pass a reparations bill that was entirely voluntary. White folk could sign on and agree to allow a fair amount, lets say 50%, of their wealth accumulation in whatever form (cars, real estate, savings, investments, jewelry, collectibles, hell, anything of value) to be deposited into a reparations fund. Or maybe allow deposits in whatever amount to be OK, but nothing less than 10% of accumulated wealth in whatever form. Black folk would sign up as beneficiaries of this fund by registering as black on some national registry, and then based on their degree of verified blackness (DNA maybe?) be eligible for receipt of a percentage of these funds. Maybe toss in income level restrictions to give the appearance of fairness. This could be done on an annual basis, like tax filing but only call it reparations justice filing. It could be filed on a "Schedule R" as part of annual tax filings. Create a sub branch of the IRS and rename the IRS the "Internal Reparations Service." Maybe Harris pushes for a less fair reparations bill. We shall see.

When I used to complain about wanting something or saying it was unfair that so-and-so had something, my grandad would ask me if I was going to complain about it and hope it showed up or take an action to get me closer to having it? I didn't always get where I was going because I'd get bored with what I wanted and change my mind, but I was already heading towards another goal. It empowered me.

Woke economics are indeed dumb but so are purely libertarian ideals--I say that as one who has a streak of libertarianism as well. Libertarianism run amuck yields thugocracies, look at Somalia who has no functioning central government and has devolved into tribal dictatorships. Or Honderas is it that hasn't gone anywhere with said ideals. Similarly, listen to the rants of Thiel and other tech elitists, supposed libertarians, who want none other than to create autocracy ruled by themselves and other tech elitists who feel most of the population is too dumb and need to be run like some software system. Greenspans mea culpa, "I guess free markets aren't self correcting after all" (said after the 2008 Financial Crisis he helped spawn) says it all---we need balance: libertarianism needs to be balanced with a quasi socially conscious government. Either ideal left to its own devices results n failed societies and extremism, be it woke Marxism or autocratic capitalism/libertarianism.

Greenspan’s comment that you shared only confirmed for me how vacuous and corrupt our elites have become. The Financial Crisis was caused by heavy-handed government intervention. From pressuring banks to write mortgages to unqualified buyers to creating a firehouse of mortgage money via the quasi-governmental Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to hearings allowing politicians to create re-election sound bites by berated banking executives over so-called “red-lining” practices. None of that had anything to do with capitalism and everything to do with elitist, top down, Soviet-styled management of the economy. And when it exploded, Greenspan becomes their spokesman, blaming capitalism to avoid them all being rightfully tarred and feathered. You simply can’t hate our elites enough.
