Growing up I read a lot of sci-fi.

I used to think the sci-fi writers had a bit too much of an imagination to gin up all these dystopian stories.

Turns out this dystopian future is already before us.

As the Unabomber spoke of in his manifesto, technology, for all its positive benefits, also has the ability to enslave us.

We are seeing that first hand...

I’m guessing this is why Bitcoin is up 34,000+

Expand full comment

Bitcoin is up to $34,000+ because it looks like the SEC will soon approve a bitcoin ETF proposed by Blackrock. Another factor is the bitcoin halving, scheduled to occur in the Spring of 2024.

Maybe, but. browsing around Fidelity the other day I saw quite a few ETFs and Mutual Funds in the crypto sector - some long, some short. So I'm not sure why Blackrock's approval from the SEC would make a difference....unless people think that will open the door to pension funds and 401K Investments? I sure hope not. Anyway, Fidelity's ETF screener has a whole category "Digital Assets." The long leveraged were among the best performers this past week - going forward, who knows? There is so much fraud and criminality in the crypto space I don't know how anyone trusts it.

Just another table in the ponzi casino. Best if you get in early.

I think it is because it would allow funds to flow in from 401k/retirement and pensions and other sources. And it's just another step along the path of bitcoin becoming more and more mainstream and more widely used.

(I have some bitcoin in a Fidelity account)

Yeah I guess it wouldn’t hurt to invest a small percentage of your portfolio into crypto. I sure wish I had put something into BTC 10 years ago!

Lyn Alden and many others recommend a small percentage. She just said everyone should have a non-zero percent of bitcoin.

I personally think it will be over $100k in the next 2-4 years (assuming these ETFs are approved, which I think is extremely likely -- I think it's just a matter of when, either this year or early next year).

Because it is the "death knell" of the banking cartel.......that is screwing the whole planet over........the banksters are rushing to embrace it, right?

I talk to guys all the time that think Shitcoin is their silver bullet against "the Man." Yet "the Man" just lets it run and facilitates it at every turn. Wonder why?

If shitcoin were truly the enemy of the banksters, they would have crushed it long ago. No one need reply with some bullshit about how the banksters can't crush it.

they haven;t crushed it because they are all waiting to dump it

Aah, the richmen north of Richmond. If I felt there was anything I could do to stop them from taking all of my civil liberties I would do it. Alas 'though I agree with you there are not enough of us to go around. And sitting on our a____s is certainly easier than doing something, i.e. making sure that we change the junta/cabal ( your choice) completely in the upcoming election so as to interfere with the current speed of repression. As I am closer to home than third I hope to make it to home prior to becoming a complete slave. And to think I voted all my life only to find now that their intent was always to take us over. For those of you between 1st and 3rd, stop the rnoRs. I just hope you are not already so far under their feet that it is too late. Good luck!

Makes me think of Mel Gibson's rendition of William Wallace. There are two kinds of leadership; those that are bought off to maintain the status quo, and those who will be destroyed at all cost for not maintaining the status quo. Destruction can be anything from character assassination to being JFK'd.

Hard to find men willing to put their asses on the line........and I mean literally........on behalf of the downtrodden, average Joe. Hard to find average Joe's with the vision, fortitude, and wherewithal to step up in number to make a difference.

Had a wise person tell me, "Everything rises and falls on leadership." This country hasn't had any real leadership in 50 years........and it shows. The current ruling class has made it clear what the fate will be of anyone that challenges their sovereignty.

Buddy asked me the other day about the big lottery and what I would do with it. I said, "Start a war." He said, "With who?" I said, "The bastards currently running this shit show." I figure if God ever grants me those kind of funds, He intends that I stir things up. For example, thought I could start by hiring a private army and going to war with Mexico first to shut down the border. It wouldn't be long and I would have to fight the guys on our side of the river as well. If the people in this country couldn't see the purpose for the fight and join in, they deserve to be the globalist slaves they are.......and their children too.

Farage was no longer eligible for an elite bank account as he didn't earn enough and was offered a basic account with the same banking group which he refused. He then got a bank account by Lloyds which funnily enough is mostly owned by the UK government after a certain event in 2008 requiring a bailout.

There was limited evidence it was for political reasons - his own SAR showed some political commentary as a backlash if they closed his account (which he was no longer eligible for).

Then when the independent FCS looked into complaints, they found no evidence of debanking for political reasons despite being asked for all evidence people were. Sure cite conspiracy - why not (and funnily enough it was the banks that referred themselves).

Also great need to stop cashless society - but it seems just as bad enforcing businesses under the name of freedom that they must accept cash.

You have a problem with forcing businesses or general economy to accept cash? What is the alternative?

Expand full comment

I have a problem with forcing businesses to accept cash - quite a lot of businesses here in the UK went cashless - as they integrated everything easily (i.e. paying taxes / accounting / payroll etc) - while the cash ones had trouble with security and depositing into banks and incorrect records (plus theft). Don't get me started on dodgy tradespeople avoiding tax, working cash in hand and committing fraud against the general public as well (I need cash for deposit to do this work... Then they give you fake documentation and then leave, either claim you never gave them money or you'll never see them again - this is rampant in the UK at moment - with the police taking no action).

Forcing them to accept cash when they don't want too (and have a further liability) isn't acceptable - if free market dictates people don't find that acceptable then they'll go out of business.

Now in an ideal world - you'd have a proper regulated system - that was full of checks and balances to avoid this. Including strict checks on payment processors and ultimate body (we have FCS and financial ombudsman - unfortunately understaffed and takes too long to get things done).

Can we trust said elected officials to have a proper system in place?

Maybe? But if we can't then we got bigger problems.

The alternative you propose involves the government. At this juncture in Western Civilization, government has been subverted (I call it soft Marxism) and is wholly untrustworthy. To me, the danger is CBDC and total life-death control over people. I cannot speak for the UK but the US government is at war against not only the world but against its own citizens. What monetary system can people use to avoid government totalitarian control over their lives? Unfortunately, right now the only sensible alternative is cash.

Expand full comment

In that case a government controlled currency (by definition of the fed) isn't sensible?

Wouldn't stores of value - i.e. gold or any other barter currency be best - cash is simply a bit of paper accepted as worth something - in your scenario the government could change that perception quickly - see south American or African countries.

Expand full comment

Yes you are correct. I should have been more clear. I meant cash that is backed by gold or silver. Ironically the US Constitution outlines this but the Federal Reserve illegally overruled this. US currency is fiat money worth only because folks believe it is worth something. The problem is governments since time immemorial have debased their currency to cheat citizens and spend more than they have. As much as I have my doubts about bitcoin (it is backed by nothing and needs computers and electricity), bitcoin truly stands out as a way to prevent government control and debasement of money. People forget that paper money was originally gold certificates that was honored bank-to-bank to move gold from one back to another.

Whilst I'm no fan of FIAT currency the problem with gold and silver backed currency is that most countries don't have domestic mining resources. Russia has one of the world's largest mine reserves and could manipulate FX markets.

I am not here to sacrifice my freedom and liberty to the convenience and security of anyone.........much less a fascist, welfare corporation.

I doubt the reason was that Farage doesn't earn enough. He's not exactly poor, and that wouldn't explain the sudden closure. They all of a sudden changed the requirement and he doesn't earn enough, while before he did?

reading the comments below about bitcoin is hilarious the gov will stop all bitcoin transactions by assuring that no one can accept them as transaction currency, Bitcoin is the greatest short oppotunity in history.

Is it possible to prevent the US and other governments from taking control of Bitcoin? They can fairly easily trace all transactions on the public ledger. Your identity can be obfuscated but when you want to convert between Dollars and Bitcoin, can do that anonymously?

Otherwise, cash is king and here to stay!

The inability to spend money or just buy something without "Big Brother" knowing about it, is a major violation of my 4th and 5th amendment rights.

Digital money......and shitcoin.......completely does away with my rights of privacy. No privacy, no freedom. You are a slave in a cell with a 7/24 security camera.

With each passing month, cash is more and more precious to me as I can make decisions and take actions that no one but me and the seller know about. And it doesn't make a flying fk what those decisions and purchases are.......it is no one's business but mine. Anyone's need-to-know, can kiss my ass.
