I live outside DC. It’s about time. I have to spend a lot of time in DC (and nearby Baltimore) and both are complete messes. Don’t be fooled by the alleged crime statistics the cities are putting out saying crime is way down over the past few years. It’s all a lie. They simply reclassified crimes and said they aren’t crimes. For example, if the person who is arrested is a juvenile they don’t count that in crime statistics. This is exactly why the DC can never be a state. The founders knew our capital can’t be controlled by a state and must be in the hands of the federal government.

Couldn’t agree more with this. I personally am beyond disgusted with the decline our cities have had (even before the covid damage they were a joke).
Why do we put up with it? DC has been under home rule for like 50 years—- clearly they don’t have a plan besides “sticking it to the man” by electing crack heads as mayor. But perhaps that’s something Trump can copy, just tell the democrats to “get over it” the same way Marion Barry did.
Excellent essay, full of humor and content, surprising coming from the man whose fashion style isn't suits but short sleeve tee shirts with sleeves torn off.
While I understand and agree with your general sentiment. One of the problems that is contributing to homelessness and people living in cars is the rising cost of rent and necessities and even entry-level homes being unaffordable. Part-time and gig jobs are common for younger people to have to work. The pay is low so many end up having to live with their parents. The best thing anyone can do is upskill, invest in the stock market, and start an online business.
Another component is that many homeless have some sort of mental illness and are dependent on alcohol and or drugs. Not easy to fix.
Also the rising costs are a function of high inflation resulting from massive money printing and government spending. Just look at the deprecation of the USD since the US went off the gold standard.
I'm aware of the currency depreciation and how it's contributed to the lower standard of living. But a group of the people who are homeless are also people who can't afford to rent because many jobs don't pay enough. There are videos of people who say they work two jobs and are still homeless.
I hope he accomplishes his goal within 30 days, because that’s all he has, by law. Under the city’s Home Rule Act, the president can take over the D.C. police for a period of up to 30 days by declaring “special conditions of an emergency nature exist.” After that time, the police would revert to local control unless Congress passes a law to allow a longer period of federal control. There’s zero chance that Congress will act (they can’t even pass gas, much less laws, without holding 6 months of hearings), so maybe Trump will just declare an “emergency” every 30 days for the next 3-1/2 years.
Part of the reason for Home Rule is to prepare for 250th Anniversary of Declaration next July. Can’t have the city as it’s been for that. So will be extended through next July.
Good point. Hadn’t thought of that. I guess he’ll have to do the same thing in L.A. for the summer Olympics in 2028. You know Newsom and Bass won’t get it gone.
It's called "Zero Tolerance" and Rudy Giuliani demonstrated that it works when he was Mayor of New York. Even those post-60s Dems who are sane have never understood the role of "Order" in the public sphere of a functional society. The Dem/Stalinist left wing, of course, wants to destroy America through DISorder. Last year the American electorate finally said: Enough!
Agree 100%. The fact that the opposition is voicing outrage etc. is yet another example of how deep the corrosive TDS has become.

Agree.
Bravo President Trump. Baltimore next?
We need to instill, once again, pride in self, a strong work ethic, not matter the job and adherence to our Constitution
I have watched CA turn into a shit hole since the first term of Jerry Brown. Uber liberal policies just tear down our society and lead to rot!

Amen brother!

800 Guardsmen is almost exactly the number of cops the DC police are short of their authorized force. So this makes perfect sense.
Or is he putting soldiers in place, so if he charges liberals with crimes, they will be prepared for riots?
