And to make matters worse, your first example is largely manufactured in order to justify the Physical Violence of your second example.
Terms like "Hate" are intentionally nebulous placeholders that allow the "actual hateful" actor to act-out there lazy-ass grievance through fists and fire.
Then you have people like Margaret Sanger who formed Planned Parentood LITERALLY as a way to thin out the Black population.....and yes, she attended KKK rallies. All True.
Jimmy Kimmel is protected by free speech to push his non-stop hate against 50% of America, but on the flip side, Disney (which owns ABC) shouldn't be in this hate mongering business.
Kimmel is the poster boy for hatred and intolerance. And who is it that fiercely defends him? That's right, the people who most loudly decry hatred and intolerance. You can't make this stuff up.
So. When someone pens a response to say, Norm Eisen or Marc Elias and says “You’re a piece of three day old dog shit, covered with flies, and rotting in the gutter,” or words to that effect, is that a ‘thought police’ hate crime?
Asking for a friend, of course.
He won’t care what the answer is, but he might order some more survival gear while he still can.
I'm doing my part by being as vocal with my "hate" as possible.
I meant to say that flippantly, but there is truth to it. Most of us have been trained all our lives to avoid saying certain true things out loud, for fear of offending the weaker among us. The weaker have hijacked that empathy to use as a weapon against what is true, right, good, and healthy.
In person with my friends and acquaintances, and also online, I am no longer bashful about stating that trans-ideology is no more than a mental illness turned into abhorrent religious doctrine, that nationalism is good for all nations and all races, and that there are serious average IQ differences between nations and ethnicities. I have numerous other opinions that are equally offensive to certain sectors. PM me for a comprehensive list.
When I began to comfortably state these truths, I expected pushback. To my surprise, I have found little to none. Some react positively and are excited that they found someone who will say it out loud. Most fall silent, and look almost ashamed, as if they had suddenly seen a nakedness they wish had remained hidden. Some mis-categorize these truths as racism, homophobia, etc., but are surprised when I tell them I consider myself to have much more in common with--and much more respect for--a black nationalist than with a mealy-mouthed, middle-of-the-road white boomer. I completely understand and admire dissimilar cultures who want me to visit their country but also want me to GTFO when my visit is done. I can high-five the man who tells me my religion is wrong and dangerous; he is less of an enemy than those who twist religion to fit their degenerate wishes.
Our culture used to make much more room for all speech, and paradoxically we were more cohesive for that fact.
There are levels of hate. I may hate something but not enough to act on it. I may hate something I have no power to change. I may hate something because at the time it makes things very impossible. I may hate another person not for who they are or claim to be, but for what they are doing. I may hate nothing. I may hate everything. So what?
Government cannot even come close to policing itself let alone a highly variable thought or idea of hate. It is ill defined and not set in concrete. Government hates haters because it has to protect its endless lies, corruption and depopulation schemes. I'll hate whatever I want to hate so screw 'em.
Besides, hate has NO power other than what you grant it. Show me a fear or show me a hate. They are mind constructs with no power.
I first read 1984 back in 1974. I can remember naively thinking "thank God we're in America and don't have to worry". The fact is, if you live long enough, you just might see the bad apples spoil the whole lot. We need all available, critical thinking citizens to help with the much needed cull.
WOW! Great article which directly depicts our current societal dissonance!! What to do to counter this hate dissonance is what remains to be defined, but in fact it cannot be countered because to do so would be involving a person in hate thought. Now What?????
You write that 'THEY' can go after churches that hate homosexuality. NO! They should not go after churches unless they promote violence. Homosexuality is a sin. The Catholic church is correct to teach that it is a sin. So 'THEY' should not be allowed to after the Catholic church or any other church unless they promote violence. How about the radical muslims that ARE violent? No mention of them?
I was watching a long history documentary about China after the fall of the imperial power all the way to Xi coming to power. Purity of thought happened only after several civil wars that killed millions of people. I'm afraid we are slowly taking this path.
The word "hate" has become a meaningless slogan - as in "hate speech". I make the clear distinction between words and actions, as does the First Amendment. I can say anything I wish, and do, but my actions are subject to legal/societal constraint.
Hate is intolerable. But hating the hate is admirable.
So, progressives can hate Trump and MAGA with impunity, because they aren't hating, they're hating the hate.
These people would be laughable, if they weren't so dangerous.

Walt Disney was a conservative yet he kept his politics out of his business. His business was for all people.
It's a shame his business was taken over by hate filled and intolerant lefties.
Well said
If JK hates me for some reason, so what? I am not in the least harmed.
I couldn't care less about kimmel, but Disney shouldn't be in the hate business.
Let kimmel and ABC push their hate through some other company.
Exactly

Hate speech is protected, for now.

Orwell was prescient.
Excellent piece! Thanks

Some things……and the people that represent those things……should be hated.
