What data would the planners to use to invent airplanes and telephone and TV and space travel and artificial hips and cellular communications? Central planners for reasons covered couldn’t even optimize a relatively short duration period of existing preferences let alone the ever changing dynamic that invents the once unimaginable. And anyone who has spent even a short amount of time working in government or education knows the bureaucrats would snuff out even the slightest light of the unfamiliar.
A centralized economy would be rigged to benefit a few and keep the rest in check.
