Even mentioning that he intended to buy a second home in AZ. He found himself & his business under an audit within 2 weeks.
I would say that it is ENVY, not jealousy. Jealousy is that you want to have the same stuff as the rich/successful guy, but ENVY is that you hate the person for being rich/successful and want to destroy their wealth/success

Another destruction of the tax base is the agenda to replace private sector supermarkets that pay property and corporate taxes with city owned supermarkets that don't pay taxes. Math is hard for the democratic socialists.
But there is a fundamental problem with New York non-residents spending up to 1/2 a year in the city and not paying the same income taxes as a resident. Someone who lives in NYC and spends 5 months a year in Florida pays NYC and NYS income taxes on 100% of their income, but the same person who lives in NYC and spends 7 months a year in Florida and 5 months a year in NYC pays no NYC and NYS income taxes on their non-earned income, and only their New York source income is taxed.
This is an unfair system to the residents and the City needs to find ways to tax non-residents who are gaming the system.
But a bigger fundamental problem is the lack of managing the out of control costs from incompetency, bloat, and corruption.
A couple of NY Times articles from over a decade ago highlighted some of these issues. 2,000 MTA managers who earn twice what their counterparts earn in DC, LA, Boston. And it's doubtful many of them live in the city. Or that the 2nd Avenue Subway extension cost 7 times what it would cost in Paris, London, Tokyo- that the unions game the system with 20% on the payroll never showed up and overtime pay at $406 per hour (that was over 10 years ago). Then there's the building department who won't process your permit unless you hire an expediter. Many expediters are retired building officials receiving pensions. They look after themselves. It's a game. So many shakedowns.
NYC’s biggest expenditures are for education and social services. The former is driven by teachers unions and the latter is a consequence of the composition of the city’s population and a large underclass. Complex problems that are not easily solved.
