How I'm Going To Try And Time The Bottom In Gold & Silver
Gold and silver are so unloved at the current moment, they’re reminding me of oil back in April 2020. But, when it comes to timing, there’s a twist.
Gold and silver are so unloved at the current moment, they’re reminding me of oil back in April 2020.
As everybody knows, oil’s plunge obviously turned into an incredible opportunity for anyone who had the balls to buy it and hold until oil’s recent highs near $120. Companies that were trading as equity stubs have appreciated multiples of their previous price and are gushing cash and dividends.
I feel like the setup is similar - or is getting similar - for precious metals. Today, I wanted to write about something I haven’t before: the potential timing of a bottom in the precious metals market. When will they have their April 2020 moment? Despite laboring on about gold and silver almost every week, it’s a topic I have yet to discuss in detail.
I haven’t exactly been secretive over the last year about my love for gold and silver mining companies, which I still think represent tremendous opportunity.
I was mapping out in my head how I wanted to keep gaining exposure to the metals when I thought about timing - when would the absolute best time to buy be? When could I supercharge my regularly scheduled purchases of gold and silver miners for maximum benefit?
The precious metals have completely fallen out of favor with investors over the last six months, as the average Joe Sixpack (and the average Joe-Sell-Side-Dickhead-In-A-Patagonia-Vest-Whose-Idea-Of-A-Good-Time-Is-Some-Horseshit-Restaurant-In-Tribeca-Where-The-Waiter-Drones-On-About-The-Menu-Items-For-An-Hour-Before-You-Even-Order) still believes that the Fed is going to be able to engineer a soft landing and that rates will remain elevated without issue.
Not only has this foolhardy thinking depressed the price of gold and silver, it has strengthened the dollar.
However, I believe that sentiment is very close to changing and, I believe this change is going to be an eventual tailwind for the precious metals the likes of which we haven’t seen in a long time. But, when it comes to timing, there’s a twist. Let me explain.
