3 Of My 22 Stocks For 2022 Have Started The Year Off With A Bang. Get The Full List Here.
Lockheed Martin has been ripping on the Russia/Ukraine headlines.
I started off the year pointing out 22 stocks I’m watching for the upcoming year.
Full descriptions and lengthy write-ups of my reasoning for keeping an eye on these names can be viewed in my three part series called “22 Stocks I’m Watching For 2022”. You can view my full write up in three parts - Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3.
Stock #8 on my list, Activision (ATVI), announced earlier this month that it was going to be acquired by Microsoft (MSFT). The stock is up about 22.5% on the year.
Last week, stock #9, Exxon (XOM) reported blowout earnings and its stock is up 6.6%, taking its YTD gains to an astonishing 31% in just one month (and one day) of trading.
It is also benefitting from the headlines that broke on Friday regarding a potential imminent invasion of Russia into Ukraine.
Also gaining on the Russia/Ukraine headlines have been defense stocks - my favorite of which, Lockheed Martin (LMT) was also on my 22 for 2022 list. I own it and have no plans of selling it. I first wrote about it on November 17, 2021.
Among other reasons I liked it into 2022, I wrote I liked it to “act as a hedge against geopolitical tensions/war”. It is up 11.5% this year so far.
For comparison, the S&P, Dow and NASDAQ are down about 4.4%, 7.3% and 12.75%, respectively, for the year.
I believe there are still undervalued names on my 2022 list - including this sector that was called out by the Wall Street Journal last week - and these two “falling knives” I wrote a couple days ago I am buying no matter how low they go.
I also recently wrote about why I think a limit down morning is coming soon and one sector where I think buyouts could happen in 2022.
